Final Magazine Double-Page Spread Sheet- Blog # 50

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I wanted to reveal my double-page spread along with any updated details.

1) First off, I wanted to mention that I added page numbers on the bottom right and left . To be seen a lot clearer, I put the page number ‘3’ as a white font. In the same time, I put the page number ‘4’ as a dark wine red so it could stand out.

2) I made sure I added my masthead, ETERNA, to the top right of page 4.

3) In that same red color, I put the overall direct quote, the drop cap L in the text and in Luciana’s last name, Toscano. I did this so I could stay consistent with the format all throughout my magazine.

This is an analysis of my double-page spread on the conventions I used.

Final Magazine Table of Contents- Blog # 49

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will be revealing my final Table of Contents with some updated details.

1) I added the pictures that pertain to its corresponding page number.

2) As you may have noticed, the page number ‘4’ is colored a dark reddish-wine. So is the subjects name ‘Luciana’ and the page number on the picture of my subject. Vogue does this thing in their table of contents where they ‘highlight’ their feature story. They do this by making a significant difference where the feature story is shown on the table of contents that still stay within the theme of the magazine. That is what I did here, I put an outstanding color on the number correspondent with Luciana’s feature story.

3) I made sure to put the masthead, ETERNA,  on the top right of the page.

4) I added a silk background and the image number on the bottom left.

5) I used three titles to add up to one title, ‘INSIDE LUCIANA’S MIND.” I used those titles to sort of decorate and fill in any blanks on the page.

6) I also changed the stories for pages 4 and 8. If you look at my survey blog, I was honestly going for a different direction with my magazine. I chose retro, really earthy colors. However, I ended up being drawn into the the classism and professional look for my magazine. Especially because my subject gives off more of a classy vibe than retro. Anyways, that is what I wanted to showcase throughout my magazine.

7) Overall, I made my table of contents simple but also complementary to to the rest of my magazine.

I made an analysis on Canva on the magazine conventions I used.

Final Magazine Cover Page- Blog # 48

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will reveal my final cover page with its updated changes.

As you can see, I added a lot more details that Vogue is most known for, such as the big title crossing either over or under the subject.

1) I decided to put my title, “ Eterna”, under my subject.

2) I also decided to add a direct quote from Luciana, my subject, because I noticed a lot of Vogue magazines have them on the bottom of the cover page.

3) A barcode was added so my cover could contain more generic magazine conventions. The barcode is simplistic and professional so it could compliment the look of my magazine.

4) Additionally, I changed the content on the little note on the top left because I changed the stories on my table of contents.

5) Lastly, I edited the picture by putting the filter “Fresco” on my main picture so it could pair with the wine-dark red font color I used for the feature story.

Here, I pointed out all of the magazine conventions I used

Photo Explanation- Blog #47

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will be describing the process behind the pictures I took for my magazine.

Cover Photo

This is the cover photo I took of my subject, Luciana Toscano. I took this picture with my camera, a SONY DSH300, after an event. She really liked her outfit that day so she asked me if I could take some pictures of her for her instagram. This photo is one of the many I took. When I put it on my cover page, I will duplicate it and use a ‘removing background’ tool to place my subject in front of my magazine title, ‘Eterna’. I also put a filter called ‘Fresco’ so it could go with the red-wine color scheme I am going for. The photo above is unedited.

Table of Contents Photos

I used two pictures for my table of contents. The first one came out of the round of photos I took of the subject after the event mentioned above. This picture is to complement what the feature story would be about, or in this case, who the feature story would be able. The second picture was taken recently after my mom got a bouquet of flowers for her birthday and it gave me an idea to change a story from my table of contents to a flower arrangement. The way I positioned this picture was from above tilting downwards so you could see the subjects eyes along with the flowers. On both pictures, I put the filter named ‘Fresco’. These pictures are also unedited.

Double-page spread photo

This picture was taken recently this year for my subjects 21st birthday. She asked me to assist her friend in taking pictures of her and this particular picture was taken by me. The reason why this picture looks a bit different is because it was taken with her friends more advanced camera and he edited the picture for her birthday instagram post. Therefore, this picture is edited already although I still added the filter named ‘Fresco’ to try to give it the same effect as the other pictures. Overall, I did take this picture with my own two hands.

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will be revealing my double-page spread, it will be show below.

After looking at a few Vogue spreads, I’ve decided to go with one that dedicates a full page to a close-up of my subject and allow the second page to have the feature story in the subject. In my finalized double-page spread, I will show you how it looks with the picture and any other details I decide to add.

Table of Contents Draft- Blog # 45

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will reveal my table of contents draft, it will be shown below.

I feel like I went too overboard with my table of contents. I realized after finishing it and putting it together that it is a double-page spread. I really liked how it looked put together so I asked my teacher if the table of contents has to be one page and she said “yes.” So, this is my rough draft but in the following blogs I will show how my table of contents looks finalized with pictures and as one page.

Magazine Cover Draft- Blog # 44

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will be revealing my cover page draft, it will be shown below.

I must admit, this draft is definitely a rough draft. At first glance, this cover looks more like a poster than a cover page for a magazine. I do like the format however I will be looking closely at the blog I made called ‘inspirational magazines’, so I can see what I could add to make it seem more like a ‘vogue-inspired’ cover page.

Final Draft for Feature Story- Blog # 43

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will be revealing the corrections my teacher gave my feature story draft and the final product with the corrections in bold lettering.

Below is my final draft for my feature story:

“Fashion trends have changed over time in two ways, old trends have been brought back and incorporated into casual streetwear. The second way, is there is a trend in fashion where everything is skintight, or short. Not always the classiest look and to be honest, the past trends still overtake the new ones.” Luciana Toscano, a 21 year old studying behavior analysis and diving into the philosophy of fashion over time.

Luciana has quite a busy schedule working a full time job after attending two classes a day at Florida International University. This, however, does not stop her from having a pretty strong opinion on fashion, and rightfully so since her transformation at 18 years old. “ When people look at me, I want them to be able to see ‘me’ in my clothes.”, she said. Fashion is not just mixed and matched clothing to Luciana, it creates an identity.

“My style peaked for me when I turned 18, I finally became an adult and realized I needed to change my look a little to not look so childish. I knew I needed to create a look for myself, to the point where I didn’t need others to ask me who I am, I just showed them.”, she stated. Luciana takes fashion very seriously, this is because it seems to be very personal for her. Her values on fashion are not the only merits accredited to her opinion on fashion over time, her age is.

Luciana was born in the 2000s, 2002, to be exact. That is where Y2K fashion was born, one of the biggest fashion trends… in America. Luciana was born in Ecuador, meaning she grew up in very cultural clothing, she did not grow up in fashion trends that originate in America. Until the age of 4, Luciana moved to the States and transitioned from cultural clothing to leggings and graphic tees. Up until high school, Luciana put on whatever her parents told her to, especially because she was the first born. “ It wasn’t until senior year of high school where I transferred schools and met a friend who brought out a part of myself I never knew was there. She helped me realized that my body has changed, as well as the times and environment I was in. I needed to understand myself before I understood what clothes to put on.”, stated Luciana.

“I figured out the style I have now based on my body shape and skin tone, with that I know what tops/bottoms look good on me. With knowing my skin tone, I know what colors make me look good.”, she said. After figuring out these key points, Luciana became an expert in fashion. For example, “I had to do a lot of research about different types of clothing that fit my body best, as well as clothes that elongate my body since I am short. Ironically, celebrities like Zendaya and Kendall became my inspirations.” Luciana was able to gain perspective from her research and how she grew up to make informed decisions and opinions that may have an impact in the fashion world.

“Fashion hasn’t changed over time, old trends are just being marked as new.” With the research, the experience, the age, and her values, Luciana has turned out to be an expert on what fashion has turned into vs. what it was. Overall, her most important tool is unbiased perspective. She grew up as a blank slate and turned herself into the fashion icon she is today. What more can be learned from Luciana Toscano.

Mind Map- Blog # 42

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will be presenting my Mind Map. This is a small summation of what my magazine will contain. It’s like a rough draft for the basis of my magazine. I am making a fashion magazine. My Mind Map will contain the genre, purpose, target audience, inspiration magazine, image types, and my group.

Mood Board- Blog #41

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will be revealing my Mood Board. This contains pictures that inspired my fashion magazine. I’ve always loved the 2000s, Y2K fashion, etc.

My subject, Luciana Toscano, comments on the Y2K fashion trend and how its brought back and “marketed as new”. The top two photos are photos that represent the Y2K era. The bottom photos are women wearing Y2K inspired outfits, however these photos are rectally taken. This is meant to represent the seemingly ‘modern’ take on this fashion trend which will reflect in Luciana’s opinion in my feature story.

Magazine Story Draft- Blog # 40

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will be revealing my feature story draft. Meaning, I am showing you my feature story before  my teacher proofreads it. In the next blog I will show you my story with my teachers notes and the final feature story with its changes.

Feature Story Draft below:

“Fashion trends have changed over time in two ways, old trends have been brought back and incorporated into casual streetwear. The second way is there is a trend in fashion where everything is skintight, or short. Not always the classiest look and to be honest, the past trends still overtake the new ones.”, said Luciana T., a 21-year-old studying behavior analysis.

Luciana was born in the 2000s, 2002, to be exact. That is where Y2K fashion was born, one of the biggest fashion trends… in America. Up until high school, Luciana put on whatever her parents told her to, especially because she was the first born. “It wasn’t until senior year of high school where I transferred schools and met a friend who brought out a part of myself, I never knew was there. Feature Story Interview- Blog # 39

Welcome Back!

In this blog, I will reveal the answers to the questions I asked my subject, Luciana Toscano. I will use these answers to generate my draft for my feature story.

1. How do you think fashion trends have changed over time?

“I think that fashion trends have changed over time in two ways, old trends have been brought back and incorporated into casual streetwear. The second way, is there is a trend in fashion where everything is skintight, or short. Not always the classiest look and to be honest, the past trends still overtake the new ones.”

2. Is there a general quote you would like to make about fashion over time?

  • “Fashion hasn’t changed over time, old trends are just being marked as new.”

3. How old are you and what are you studying?

  • “ I’m 21 years old and I am studying behavior analysis at FIU. I also work at a tax firm right after my two classes. I usually come home around 10 on a full day, on a good day I come home around 6.”

4. Tell me about your childhood? How was fashion relevant at that time?

  • “ I was born in September 30, 2002 in Ecuador, Quito. Looking back at childhood pictures, I wore very childish clothing. It wasn’t until senior year of high school where I transferred schools and met a friend who brought out a part of myself I never knew was there. She helped me realized that my body has changed, as well as the times and environment I was in. I needed to understand myself before I understood what clothes to put on”.

5. What recent fashion trends do you agree with?

“I agree with the trend lately with blazers, blazers are no longer just for office wear, they can be worn casually with jeans and can be used as streetwear.”

6. What past fashion trends do you agree with?

“I agree with the past fashion trends like low rise jeans and 1970s platform heels.”

7. How did you figure out the style you have now?

“I figured out the style I have now based on my body shape and skin tone, with that I know what tops/bottoms look good on me. With knowing my skin tone, I know what colors make me look good.”

8. What process did you have to go through to decide on a fashion trend or style that fits you best?

“I had to do a lot of research about different types of clothing that fit my body best, as well as clothes that elongate my body since I am short. Ironically, celebrities like Zendaya and Kendall became my inspirations.”

9. Did you use any celebrity styles or outfits as inspiration?

“Yes, I used Kendall Jenner as my style inspiration.”

10. What or who inspired your search for finding your “best look”?

“Pinterest mostly inspired me for finding my best look, basically any social media influence.”

11. How do you define a fashion icon?

“Anyone who can make the ugliest looks look well put together, like Zendaya.”

12. What do you think is the criterion for becoming a fashion icon?

“The criterion for becoming a fashion icon is being bold and stepping out onto the public eye.”

13. What is your opinion on fashion in general?

“Fashion is what you make of it, what is ugly to someone, can be beautiful to another, in other words, one mans trash is another mans treasure.”

14. What purpose do you think fashion should have in contrast with the purpose it has now?

  • “ I think it should focus more on wearability. A lot of fashion these days are so small and honestly, not t comfortable enough to walk down the street. Fashion should be stylish AND wearable.”

15. What part do you think fashion has played in your life?

It has given me confidence to present myself to society.”

16. At what age did your interest for fashion peak? Why?

“My style peaked for me when I turned 18, I finally became an adult and realized I needed to change my look a little to not look so childish. I knew I needed to create a look for myself, to the point where I didn’t need others to ask me who I am, I just showed them”.
