1. How do you think fashion trends have changed over time?
⁃ “I think that fashion trends have changed over time in two ways, old trends have been brought back and incorporated into casual streetwear. The second way, is there is a trend in fashion where everything is skintight, or short. Not always the classiest look and to be honest, the past trends still overtake the new ones.”
2. Is there a general quote you would like to make about fashion over time?
- “Fashion hasn’t changed over time, old trends are just being marked as new.”
3. How old are you and what are you studying?
- “ I’m 21 years old and I am studying behavior analysis at FIU. I also work at a tax firm right after my two classes. I usually come home around 10 on a full day, on a good day I come home around 6.”
4. Tell me about your childhood? How was fashion relevant at that time?
- “ I was born in September 30, 2002 in Ecuador, Quito. Looking back at childhood pictures, I wore very childish clothing. It wasn’t until senior year of high school where I transferred schools and met a friend who brought out a part of myself I never knew was there. She helped me realized that my body has changed, as well as the times and environment I was in. I needed to understand myself before I understood what clothes to put on”.
5. What recent fashion trends do you agree with?
⁃ “I agree with the trend lately with blazers, blazers are no longer just for office wear, they can be worn casually with jeans and can be used as streetwear.”
6. What past fashion trends do you agree with?
⁃ “I agree with the past fashion trends like low rise jeans and 1970s platform heels.”
7. How did you figure out the style you have now?
⁃ “I figured out the style I have now based on my body shape and skin tone, with that I know what tops/bottoms look good on me. With knowing my skin tone, I know what colors make me look good.”
8. What process did you have to go through to decide on a fashion trend or style that fits you best?
⁃ “I had to do a lot of research about different types of clothing that fit my body best, as well as clothes that elongate my body since I am short. Ironically, celebrities like Zendaya and Kendall became my inspirations.”
9. Did you use any celebrity styles or outfits as inspiration?
⁃ “Yes, I used Kendall Jenner as my style inspiration.”
10. What or who inspired your search for finding your “best look”?
⁃ “Pinterest mostly inspired me for finding my best look, basically any social media influence.”
11. How do you define a fashion icon?
⁃ “Anyone who can make the ugliest looks look well put together, like Zendaya.”
12. What do you think is the criterion for becoming a fashion icon?
⁃ “The criterion for becoming a fashion icon is being bold and stepping out onto the public eye.”
13. What is your opinion on fashion in general?
⁃ “Fashion is what you make of it, what is ugly to someone, can be beautiful to another, in other words, one mans trash is another mans treasure.”
14. What purpose do you think fashion should have in contrast with the purpose it has now?
- “ I think it should focus more on wearability. A lot of fashion these days are so small and honestly, not t comfortable enough to walk down the street. Fashion should be stylish AND wearable.”
15. What part do you think fashion has played in your life?
⁃ “It has given me confidence to present myself to society.”
16. At what age did your interest for fashion peak? Why?
⁃ “My style peaked for me when I turned 18, I finally became an adult and realized I needed to change my look a little to not look so childish. I knew I needed to create a look for myself, to the point where I didn’t need others to ask me who I am, I just showed them”.
17. What inspired you to continue pursuing fashion?
- “ When people look at me, I want them to be able to see ‘me’ in my clothes.”
