Welcome Back!
In this blog, I will be revealing the corrections my teacher gave my feature story draft and the final product with the corrections in bold lettering.
“Fashion trends have changed over time in two ways, old trends have been brought back and incorporated into casual streetwear. The second way, is there is a trend in fashion where everything is skintight, or short. Not always the classiest look and to be honest, the past trends still overtake the new ones.” Luciana Toscano, a 21 year old studying behavior analysis and diving into the philosophy of fashion over time.
Luciana has quite a busy schedule working a full time job after attending two classes a day at Florida International University. This, however, does not stop her from having a pretty strong opinion on fashion, and rightfully so since her transformation at 18 years old. “ When people look at me, I want them to be able to see ‘me’ in my clothes.”, she said. Fashion is not just mixed and matched clothing to Luciana, it creates an identity.
“My style peaked for me when I turned 18, I finally became an adult and realized I needed to change my look a little to not look so childish. I knew I needed to create a look for myself, to the point where I didn’t need others to ask me who I am, I just showed them.”, she stated. Luciana takes fashion very seriously, this is because it seems to be very personal for her. Her values on fashion are not the only merits accredited to her opinion on fashion over time, her age is.
Luciana was born in the 2000s, 2002, to be exact. That is where Y2K fashion was born, one of the biggest fashion trends… in America. Luciana was born in Ecuador, meaning she grew up in very cultural clothing, she did not grow up in fashion trends that originate in America. Until the age of 4, Luciana moved to the States and transitioned from cultural clothing to leggings and graphic tees. Up until high school, Luciana put on whatever her parents told her to, especially because she was the first born. “ It wasn’t until senior year of high school where I transferred schools and met a friend who brought out a part of myself I never knew was there. She helped me realized that my body has changed, as well as the times and environment I was in. I needed to understand myself before I understood what clothes to put on.”, stated Luciana.
“I figured out the style I have now based on my body shape and skin tone, with that I know what tops/bottoms look good on me. With knowing my skin tone, I know what colors make me look good.”, she said. After figuring out these key points, Luciana became an expert in fashion. For example, “I had to do a lot of research about different types of clothing that fit my body best, as well as clothes that elongate my body since I am short. Ironically, celebrities like Zendaya and Kendall became my inspirations.” Luciana was able to gain perspective from her research and how she grew up to make informed decisions and opinions that may have an impact in the fashion world.
“Fashion hasn’t changed over time, old trends are just being marked as new.” With the research, the experience, the age, and her values, Luciana has turned out to be an expert on what fashion has turned into vs. what it was. Overall, her most important tool is unbiased perspective. She grew up as a blank slate and turned herself into the fashion icon she is today. What more can be learned from Luciana Toscano.
