Magazine genres refer to the different types of magazines that can be created on certain topics. Topics such as the ones I will mention in this blog, cooking, art, fashion, and travel magazines. Each magazine is based on a certain topic to provide information, entertainment, etc,. The writer of each type of magazine usually has knowledge on that topic because they are in that field or they’ve done research. I will explain in depth below.

Cooking magazines

Cooking magazines are usually categorized as informational because it contains recipes, however entertainment can be considered as aspect as well. The person writing these kinds of magazines are usually chefs, home cooks, bakers, or someone with a cooking background. Publishing the end result of those recipes can be fun to see. This is also a good marketing trait because it could be motivating to see how beautiful the end result is, so much so that you would want to recreate that. According to themegrill.com, recipes aren’t the only thing that is being published in a cooking magazine. Recently, people have incorporated specific ingredients and it’s nutritional value and cooking tool recommendations. In addition, like I mentioned in the beginning, cooking magazines usually contain many pictures of aesthetic or styled food.

Art magazines

Art is considerably always part of every magazine, a magazine without pictures is not attractive because people need to see with their eyes first what they are reading about before actually reading it. Especially because art is always so attractive because it’s usually very intricate, deep, or surreal, it really attracts a wide audience. In addition, art isn’t just paintings, it could be considered a very wide spectrum. Anything considered art is fair game. Topics such as music or dancing is also considered art and can be put in an art magazine. An art magazine would usually also mention the artist and their background, as well as the intention behind the art.

Fashion magazines

Fashion magazines are usually a very popular type of magazine genre. This type of magazine wouldn’t just involve clothes and styling tips, there is a lot more then that. If you are writing a fashion magazine, you probably already know a lot about fashion by watching red carpets and seeing celebrities in their intricate clothing, this includes the brand they are representing. Something that compliments clothing is the makeup, a if you study clothing on red carpets, you can’t help but notice their extravagant makeup and eye designs. In addition, if you are avid about writing a fashion magazine, it’s most likely you are already creating your own brand of clothing or makeup products so a fashion magazine would be a great way to market your stuff. Overall, a fashion magazine wouldnt only contain clothes, it would contain trending fashion brands, pictures of celebrity clothing, make-up recommendations, and fashion trends.

Travel magazines

Travel magazines tend to be very informational because it gives vital information about places you can visit for vacation, however, their is also an entertainment aspect because travel magazines usually contain vivid pictures of beautiful places all other the world. Of course, a lot of travel magazines are biased they they could be funded by a certain location to promote their spot as “the best vacation spot”. This is true however there is much more to a travel magazine. Very few are unbiased but those that are can be pretty useful and informational. They dont just talk about places to visit and publish a couple of pictures, travel magazines include places to eat, lodge, attractions, affordability, etc. Travel magazines may also contain testimonials about real people who have been there and they’re recounting on being at that location. There could also be suggested guides and “top ten places to go when visiting…”, stuff like that.
