Welcome Back!
In this blog, I will be using a specific magazine as an example to showcase house style. This magazine was my inspiration for the magazine I am currently planning.
Magazine: TIME
What is time magazine?
“TIME’s mission is to provide trusted guidance about the ideas and people who shape and improve the world. This promise lives at the center of our award-winning editorial work, fast-growing new divisions, innovative new products, and partner solutions.” -TIME
*insert pictures
These are examples of TIME magazine. They are to bring attention to TIME’s most significant house style.
The masthead is what gives TIME’s its most significant trend. It is in big, capital letters, probably in Roman font. But the clearest detail is the picture in contrast with the masthead. What I have noticed is if the picture has a subject in an obscure position or it isn’t a close-up shot of their face, them the masthead will disappear slightly behind the subject (as seen in the magazine with Taylor Swift or Gitanjali).
However, if the picture is a close-up shot of the subjects face then the masthead would most likely overpass the subjects forehead (as seen in the magazine with Steve Jobs or Elon Musk)
This specific issue from TIME magazine is called “person of the Year”. It is a magazine that keeps the trend of having specifically one subject completely covering the cover page along with its branded masthead.
