Welcome back!

Before going on the process of creating a four page magazine, I would like to introduce myself, talk about interests, future, and why I’m taking this class. 

To begin, my name is Edda and I am a Cambridge Junior. I have always been good at writing comprehension which transitioned to writing analysis however I haven’t fully excelled at that. I have also recently realized that I am really good at science which is perfect for my future dream career. I am counting on this course to teach me how to further analyze media elements and content. I don’t have any hobbies unless you count doing homework every night, I am hoping it teaches me something other than time management and responsibility. It does teach me that I have to work hard to get ahead and it pushes me to be productive so I rather not complain. This class has made me realize that I like learning through a hands-on approach while also reaching over to my creative side. 

My goal in life is to become a pediatrician. The fact that I don’t like homework might be a problem because I have to be in school for many years considering the career path I am taking. Therefore, I give thanks to the Cambridge program because it is getting me used to what I will face in the future. 

I want to help people and when I picture helping people I think about a career in the medical field, I also love caring for kids so I figured pediatrician would be a good mix of the two. I am in a biomedical program here at school studying nursing. I would like to become a certified nurse first so I can save up money, meanwhile I would be studying to become a pediatrician. It would be a lot of work but the Cambridge program is preparing me for life in collage. 

I first chose to take this Media Studies class because everyone said it was an easy class to pass, which I recently found out it pretty much is, however now I realize it’s actually an interesting subject. I am excited to learn more about media and the background of it all. When I read the syllabus, I was shocked at how much was needed just to make a four page magazine. I can’t imagine the process of making an actual magazine that is viewed by the whole world. When I finish this course I plan on having a new appreciation for people who’s jobs are to create media, I also plan on having a good amount of knowledge on that process by experiencing a portion of it myself.

Reflection on Syllabus- Blog #2

In my introduction I mentioned why I started this blog, which is to document my progress on creating a four page magazine for my final project in the AICE Media Studies course. 

I’ve taken a yearbook elective which involved me in creating captions for photos and small extracts to fill yearbook pages. I learned how to put together the more textual parts of the yearbook such as the narrative and primary headlines, which is why I’m much more advanced in my writing skills than in the creativity department. 

Three aspects of this course I’m looking forward to:

- I’m looking forward to learning about how the format of a magazine should be. 

- I’m excited to start editing on canva to create pieces I can use in my magazine.

- I’m looking forward to seeing the end result of my magazine and how much I have learned. 

Three aspects of this course that makes me nervous:

- I am nervous about learning subject specific terminology because that is not my strong suit.

- I’m nervous about figuring out the theme and how to put the pages together.

- I am nervous about understanding how to communicate meanings through close analysis of the interaction of media language and audience responses.

What I hope to gain from this course is a new appreciation for anyone who has to go through this process of creating a magazine. I wish to develop critical understanding of international, global, and local media through engagement with media products. I want to learn how the impact of media within a variety of cultures influences social values. Finally, I hope this course develops my creativity in anything I wish to do in the future.

Introduction- Blog #1

 Hello my name is Edda, 

This introduction page will introduce a blog I am using to document my process on creating a four page magazine for my final AICE Media Studies project. 

In the beginning of this blog you will see how I first thought a magazine should look like, then you will see my skill set improve along the way with the final product being the result of what I learned about the format of a magazine.

In addition, you will see these main tasks being put into place:

• The front page, contents, and feature article of a new magazine. 
• I, along with a team, will brainstorm together as a group but will each individually produce a unique edition of a magazine. 
• I will have unique images and text created and provided by myself along with research I will conduct on the topic I choose. Each individual with have a minimum of 4 images they can choose. 
• There will be preliminary exercises that will improve my skill set and my understanding of the technical side of creating a magazine. 

I will be using the skills I currently have such as communication, very little editing skills( I know how to edit a word document) and writing/analysis skills I learned from my AICE Language class. I will also be adding many of the skills I don’t have but hope to learn such as technical and computer skills, and many of the creative skills needed for the creative parts of the magazine.

 What I hope to learn and gain from this project is what I hope to apply in real life. This will teach me time management, creativity, technique, writing and analysis skills which I can use to excel in any collage I go to. What I most want to make apparent in this project is how my technical, writing,  and creative skills improve along the way because of this assignment.
